Do you google yourself? You should from time to time to see how your results appear to people searching for your solutions. (Choose an incognito window to get more typical results.)

I recently googled the term “medical device marketing” to see if I was still the top result. I was – and then some!

Google introduced a new snippet feature and I was delighted to get this extra coverage. It really makes it seem as though you’ve come to the right place for “medical device marketing!”

But no, I never “applied” for it and no, I don’t know how they decided to pick me or how they chose the image they did except (a) I was consistently number one for the term “medical device marketing” and (b) the book was the hero image on the homepage.

Now that I’ve updated the site and updated the book cover, it will be interesting to see if the snippet changes in any way.

What This Means for Your Marketing Efforts

From the start, “medical device marketing” was the term I targeted for this site. It’s the one that “pays my bills.”

While tricks don’t fool Google, a few things broke in my favor.

  1. I use the term “medical device marketing” in my title tag.
  2. I use the term “medical device marketing” in my blog post URLs.
  3. I’ve had this site since 2011 and Google rewards duration of service.
  4. I’ve written 150 articles and earned many backlinks for the term “medical device marketing.”
  5. And when there is a reasonable way to include the term “medical device marketing” in a sentence, I do. I’ve used it eight times for this post.

So what is your one term? Are you doing everything you can online to earn a top place for it?
